i did a presentation on fiscal reserves as well as the role of the president in guarding them for lslma, under prof helena chan.
i learnt many stuff, including that important fact that the fiscal reserves of Singapore are largely not tapped into. and guess what - i woke up today (in the afternoon) to news that the government is now reaching into these reserves ($4.9 billion!) under the Resilience Package.
if anything, it's ominous, foreshadowing the worst economic performance in YEARS! negative GDP (another red light), record unemployment rate expected (yet ANOTHER) and whatnots.
please, i hope the majority of us will weather these tough times; that employers will be compassionate and look at the employee payrolls as rigidly fixed cost (thus NOT retrenching them..well hopefully) and that we come out of this turmoil battered, but whole.
on a lighter note, i realised my writing skills have deteriorated somewhat; perhaps i should practise more before it becomes worse.
